The Oakland Athletics and Colorado Rockies have completed their blockbuster deal. OF Matt Holliday will head to Oakland while RP Huston Street, OF Carlos Gonzalez, and P Greg Smith head to Colorado. The A's are getting a fantastic and professional hitter in slugger Matt Holliday. Holliday bats from the right side, hits for a high average, and drives in runners. Holliday will be the center of this Oakland lineup filling the A's biggest need. Holliday is eligible for free agency after the 2009 season which means in Oakland may be brief. The! A's can either trade him before the deadline or keep him and pick up a compensatory draft pick after the
season. Either way Oakland should get very good value. Holliday should be one of the biggest commodities on next year's trade market. The Rockies dealt away a great player that were going to lose after next season. Colorado decided to get value now rather than lose him. Huston Street could potentially be their closer, but it is looking as if Colorado will now turn around and deal him as well. Carlos Gonz! alez is a good young player who should fare well in Colorado. ! Greg Sm ith is a highly regarded pitchin
g prospect. Colorado got very good value for Holliday. One other notable move was the Florida Marlins sending SP Scott Olsen and OF Josh Willingham to Washington. The Marlins were likely to lose both of these guys to arbitration, so they got some decent prospects for them. The Nationals got a new ace in Olsen and a middle of the order hitter in Willingham. Both of these players are still very young.Great steal for Washington.
